Calories Count

DON'T COUNT THE CALORIES – MAKE THE CALORIES COUNT We are what we eat. The better our decisions for fuel, the greater the benefits will be to health. Tasty, nutritious, well-balanced and freshly prepared foods, eaten mindfully, chewed and assimilated with our digestive enzymes, – reasonable portion sizes, digested calmly and gratefully received in to the body. Good fats, organic fresh or lightly steamed vegetables and naturally farmed meat or wild caught seafood. First measure the daily calories required, dependent on your age and amount of movement/exercise and mental focus required. Keeping a close eye on the calorie count for three days, should, by the third day, indicate signs of hunger/satiety. Depending on the goals, tweaking the daily calorie total amounts over the next three days, will help to maintain, gain or lose weight.  There are many things affecting weight. Water retention is a common cause for weight gain. Lunar cycles affect water behaviours, sodium levels affect ...

How To Eat Right

Image
THE JURY IS OUT ON FOOD Bombarded daily by many food opinions, fad diets, celebrity endorsed products, confusing marketing schpiel and conflicting views about how to eat right – how can we make best decisions about food. There's a lot to be said about increasing quality and managing quantities of food. There's also a lot to be said about fasting too. Back in 2006, whilst snowboarding in Kashmir, I met an Icelandic guy who was to me, the embodiment of someone who enjoyed food and drink (plus adventure). What I didn't know at the time, were his ailments to certain foods, causing gastric bloating, manifesting in bad skin and other progressive chronic disorders.  Some years later, we met again in Iceland and bathing in hot pools, noticed the stocky Icelandic's body shape had totally changed. The diet now focussed on mainly fruit – especially lots of bananas. This was when I first heard of The China Study and what opened my eyes to different energy systems that the body m...

Nutrition & Diet

EAT RIGHT FEEL LIGHT The best diets are those that work well for an individual's body. We are all wonderfully unique in tastes and preferences, but there are some key elements to follow when considering the best foods for our body. Our body type  defines our metabolism. The exercises we perform, can both sustain health, as well as alter genetical body shape. Our focus on which foods to choose or avoid, – those with good fats, anti-inflammatory benefits and those for ensuring digestive health, – this knowledge will greatly improve chances of staying healthy, increasing fitness levels as well as for optimising performance with defining muscle type, tone and size. Diets For Body Type Paleo (AKA caveman ) diet and high-fat Keto  diet (or similarly Atkins ), have brought many people positive results when maintaining body weight, in reducing body fat, when recovering from allergies, ailments, chronic diseases and for experiencing overall improvements in body/mind performance....

Movement For Vitality

THE BIO-ELECTRICAL HUMAN Our bodies are made up of billions of cells , including symbiotic microorganisms which all communicate to create a harmonious balance in the body. The energy we need to sustain the body, exists all around us. Food calories from fat, carbohydrates and proteins as well as minerals, nutrients and vitamins are assimilated from our food. However, as some scientists are realising , there are other forms of energy, which nurture the body, that modern science has not yet been able to explain fully. Frequencies in the form of light, sound and electromagnetic electricity are abundantly found in water and air – two of our precious sources of life-sustaining elements we need for survival. We are 75% water and breathe around 20,000 times in a day, so we're already absorbing and transmuting these key elements into bio-electrical energy, which is key for energising the mind, body and soul. It's widely accepted that we receive all energy from calories contained in food...

Breathing Routines for Energy Harnessing

Image
TAKING FIRST BREATHS Morning routines needn't be taxing on energy or time – they can be as gentle as simply breathing. Our essentials for life are breath, water, sunlight and love. These simple energy-enhancing benefits, can all be activated from the comfort of our home, park or anywhere there's a space to focus. From the moment we wake from sleep, to the moment we climb back into our beds, we are breathing in and out thousands of times . The action of breathing is both autonomous and we can direct our breath consciously. Amazingly, we are never taught to breathe and many folks, who have issue with anxiety , also have issues with breathing – and visa versa.  Yoga has many benefits for health and one of its founding practices, focuses purely on breath. Box breath (even breaths), is just one of the many beneficial breathing techniques that can create calm and balance before your day begins.  Dragon's Breath Troy Casey's video above, captures simple breathing techniques ...

Daily Routines

SETTING UP YOUR DAY Getting out of the wrong side of baed is a phrase awarded to those who are not at their best. Perhaps lifestyle – stress, coupled with poor diet, over-indulgence of the wrong food types, plus late nights and lack of sleep are contributing factors. Or maybe negative thoughts and holding patterns may be contributing to a depressed mood. If the mornings are usually a struggle, there may a number of things that need to change. Likely, if mornings are not the best time for you, becoming a member of the 5am club is something out of the question. So making the most of the remaining time throughout our day is where we can optimise on developing body, mind and spirit. The best time to focus on ourselves, is when we are ready to do so – be that early in the morning, late in the evening or any time in between. The key is to factor-in this time for ourselves. We can even practice yoga mindfulness while on-the-go.  You Make Your Own Bed From the moment we wake, until the la...

Morning Routines

EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM As the title suggests, the best time to activate energy systems, focus the mind and strengthen the body for whatever the day may bring, is a period shortly after waking, early in the morning. Robin Sharma's  5am Club  was first introduced to me back in 2014. It was discovered at a pivotal moment in time, when the effects of burning a candle at both ends were becoming increasingly apparent, with diminished energy levels, failing health and reduced mental acuity. Up until that moment, the relied upon adage 'work hard - play hard' system, had been the favoured mantra repeated throughout 20's and 30's. Evidently, moving past 40, the 'bounce back' wasn't proving to be quite as effective any more, so it was definitely the right time for lifestyle and mindset changes. This step, propelled me onwards, to a  a year of dedicated mindfulness , is the seat of my newfound knowledge and reason both my partner and I are developing along an...
